Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery Memorial Day Service 2014                            

 

WHAT/WHO:             Veterans, Family of Veterans, and the Community are invited to gather at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Seneca County, to pay their respects to veterans who gave their lives for our country as part of their annual “Memorial Day Service.”

 A Veterans Memorial March will assemble at 1:45 pm at the restored WWII Guard Shack. Veterans will march in honor of the more than 190 veterans, and dependents that have been interred at the cemetery, since its first burial Sept 26, 2011. All Honorably Discharged Veterans are encouraged to take part in this event.

Memorial Services and Military Honors will follow at the cemetery’s Committal Shelter, honoring all Veterans who sacrificed their lives for our Country.

Keynote speaker this year is Brigadier General (Ret.) N.Y. Army National Guard, John Cataline. 

The Geneva Doughboys will provide Honor Guard & Color Guard.

Antique military vehicles and equipment will be at the site in static display, and “Honor Flight” will have a representative available to answer questions and provide informational materials. 

SVMC will also pay tribute to American women of WWII by volunteers dressing in iconic” Rosie the Riveter” apparel in honor of the contribution they made to our country during wartime.

Boy Scout Troop # 74 Waterloo, NY will place flags at gravesites prior to this year’s event.

                                     Veterans March begins promptly at 1:45 pm

 

* The public is invited to attend, but seating capacity is limited. Guests are welcome to bring personal lawn chairs. This event will take place rain or shine. Please dress accordingly for the weather.
